I don't actually mind going over such things with people in the appropriate time and place. A better way of dealing with this would have involved first apologizing, stating that the behavior would cease, and then inquiring - preferably by whisper, so as to let the main channel cool off - where and how the judgement call is made. You need to abide by house rules before questioning them, aiight? In that order and no other.
