It's possible that your fonts folder has lost its magic. (Is there "install new font..." in the file menu?) I think there's a tweakUI (see Microsoft's Site) utility to fix it, if it has. Otherwise, remember to use "install new font" or *drag* them into the folder (saving them there or doing it in DOS doesn't work).
