WASHINGTON (AP) -- Grover Norquist's obsession with taxes began with the ice cream cones.
After church, Norquist's father would buy his four children ice cream at the Dairy Joy in Weston, Mass.
But they would not get to eat all of it. Warren Norquist would go to each child, take a bite of ice cream and declare: "Income tax." Later bites would be "sales tax" and "estate tax."
Grover Norquist loves to tell that story. The anti-tax crusader even urges conservative audiences to use the same technique to educate their children about the evils of government and its taxing power. |
