Time to get serious.

There comes a time in every man's life when he has to speak in complete sentences.

I have to thank Far for showing me untitled.gif. It's been hilarious at times, both in a "funny ha-ha" way and in a "funny what-the-fuck" way. It doesn't quite have as much personal significance for me as it does for him, but then again, I wasn't undergoing a nervous breakdown at the time.

I've enjoyed our conversations here, too - from what I've understood of them. A certain breakdown of communications may have come about due to the official Armenian language. However, I think what I'm basing this reply upon wasn't mistaken. If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct.

untitled.gif is certainly no ordinary webcomic. I follow dozens of them, almost religiously, and continually mean to start up one of my own - and even I wouldn't try to emulate this one, because I wouldn't be able to do it justice. I've read Pokey (which I don't enjoy), and I've read isometric (which I like, but not as much), and yours is frankly the best Monty Python of comics I've seen, period.

All three of the aforementioned comics share a complete and utter lack of respect for tradition and convention - unorthodoxy, if you will. This is what makes it beautiful, along with the manic artistic designs, the widely varied and rounded-out cast of characters... and, of course, a wicked sense of humor.

In recent strips, Far and I have felt that untitled.gif has been losing some of its genius. Why? Damnifyknow. I'm not there, you are. Beginning at 093, and continuing, the level of humor has seemed to taper off. Occasionally, strips will shine; the 100th comic spectacular gave me hope for the future; but, in all, untitled.gif has been becoming increasingly... for lack of a better term... sane.

Neither of us - in fact, I'll wager, NONE of us - wants to see untitled.gif lose its charm and its magnetism. Read back to the early days of the archive... the cheerful restructuring of sentences (yes, I DID read 102), the randomly-strewn labels and commentary, good art combined with free-form Paintbrush products, nerd jokes, 180-degree shifts in mood and story arcs... god, I miss the nuclear missile. I really do.

We both have. We haven't been able to speak to you frankly about it, nor did either of us really have the cojones to. The fact of the matter is, this IS your artistic domain. This IS your work, your intellectual property, your creation, and you have every right to change it, to end it, to recreate it as you see fit. And we don't really have anything to say about it, because we've had nothing to do with it. But, damn it, we're fans. We don't want to see untitled.gif die. We've tried to make our opinions known, without making demands, or even requests. We've been trying to give you our feedback on your product; before, I think we got the impression across that we enjoyed it. I hope we did.

Now, however, we've been trying to communicate a less favorable impression. We've been making suggestions, telling you what we think, and you (I don't entirely know to whom I speak, and it doesn't really matter) have increasingly been taking it as a personal assault.

Here are the things we haven't done. We haven't pointed a finger of blame at any one person. We haven't demanded that things be changed - or not changed. We haven't insulted you. We haven't stormed off in a huff.

Here's what we have done. We've tried to give you feedback, which as far as I know is what every artist desires. We've tried to work with you and support you in all things. We've tried to make it clear that our concern is because we truly DO enjoy untitled.gif, and don't want to see it become something less than what it could be.

There hasn't been any hostility. We haven't sought to destroy ANYONE involved with untitled.gif. We've made suggestions, comments, inquiries. We've tried to work with you, as best as we can from our rather noninvolved place.

Again, I realize this is your creation, and I don't really have a leg to stand on. But by taking this personally, you've MADE it personal. And, so help me, if Far really does remove himself, so will I. I'm not going to stay with untitled.gif, no matter HOW good it was or is or can be, if constructive criticism is considered unorthodox.
