those of you blown about by stuff you find on tom's website(s) <and perhaps tom himself> might be interested in this funktified place i'm working at this summer <hmmm... not really a place... an environment, shall we say> called the center for talented youth. it's run through johns hopkins university and in its most boring literal description, it's summer school for smart kids. BUT it's also far far more than that... it's a place for all those kids (from 9-18) who are shunned in "normal" school to get a chance to really have a blast exploring the stuff that fascinates them <from drama to computer science, philosophy to biotechnology> with an UNBELIEVABLE STAFF (and that's where i come in - i'm part of the instructional staff) that provide an academic and "summer camp" experience for these super-awesome kids <they live at whatever site they're attending for 3 weeks, so they have various activities every afternoon outside of class and dances and out-trips on weekends, it rocks>. AAAANyway, as i was perusing the tomsites, i was thinking to myself that tom strikes me as an individual who would fit in marvelously as a staff member at a CTY site (there are 19 of them, strung across the east and west coasts of the U.S.). and i bet people who enjoy toms pages would have similar experiences... it has truly been one of the COOLEST things i've done in my life, and i've done a LOT of cool things in my life!!! it's for people who love to *think* about stuff, and find that others look at them funny when they try to describe what they're thinking. at CTY, people don't look at you funny... they LISTEN. and it's unreal. so, if this has perchance piqued your interest in any way, check out the website at www.jhu.edu/gifted/ctysummer. there's tonnes of info. they start accepting applications in january... apply! apply!! i wouldn't say this if i didn't mean it!!! this could change your life...
thanks for listening, kids i have to go back to the dance now bean |
