Bravo gentlemen - now you're sounding like me. Yes...please do come back and see America and meet some of us radical environmentalists who dedicate years (if not the rest of our entire lives) to stopping urban blight and "using" the National Parks to protect pristine wilderness from the likes of Disneyland and condo bondage. I have taken grief for years for sounding like your typical "tree-hugger". It takes tenacity and a tough skin to keep the US Government from whacking every natural area in search of oil and the proverbial big buck. Too many have sold out their heritage, their history and their souls for $$$.
With the help of a huge team of scientists, botanists, ecologists and yes, even the Indians, we have now protected over 400,000 acres of land in Colorado alone. Look up The Great Sand Dunes for a little history. There is one little sand beetle who lives there and no where else in the world. By using this little critter and a few rare plants we were able to purchase 100,000 acres of area near and around it, spend 10 years protecting all the water rights, and endangered species thru contract negotiations and mountains of paperwork...then and only then...turned it over to the National Park for management. It was a 17 million dollar deal that will last forever. Come visit - you'll love it. |
