I think it's important for artists to challenge the idea of art, typically from the standpoint of what is included rather than excluded.
Nonetheless, aesthetics may be entirely subjective, but that doesn't mean that its agenda is. Art with explanation is powerful, partially because it is often subject to scrutiny -- or attack.
So I say that an intelligent discussion of what is considered "art" is worthwile, and discussions of the relative merits of the meaning of art is even better. (That doesn't mean that I think name calling is interesting! ;)) |
