If I had a female perspective in my life, would I be here? :P A relationship is two-sided, but just like there's no objective way to answer these lifelong questions being brought up, there's no way to get more than one side of the story, unless one of us wants to track down a person that has caused us this pain/pleasure and get them to respond on the same topic. Don't everybody speak at once, now.

Okay, direct question, direct response. "What's the difference between a close friendship and love?" Lemme act all bourgeosie and edumacated for a moment. The Greek philosophers had it that there were four forms of love - eros, philios, storge, and agape. Roughly translated, eros: passion or sexual, philios: brotherly or friendship, storge: maternal or instinctual, agape: religious or unconditional.

So what's my point? You're asking the wrong question, comparing apples and oranges. A very close friendship is love; there is no functional difference. Then again, people love their parents too... albeit not in the same way. You love these somewhat mythical partners we keep discussing, and you love the taste of steak, but it's not the same. Is there a difference between close friendship and love? WHICH love? Are you asking whether eros and philios can equate?

I think too much. It's pretty much a given. But at the same time, my basic response is, it ain't that simple.
