Certain instincts are considered love - imprinting upon parents, maternal protectivity, etc. So whether or not they ARE love is really a matter of personal interpretation. Hell, ALL of this is a matter of personal interpretation. Your cat might not love you. I have a cat, and despite being an elderly female Siamese she is so very humanocentric it scares me; when she tracks me down after fifteen minutes of my arriving home from college, camps my lap until it spawns, and rather firmly applies gravity for the next hour and a half, I'm pretty sure it's love. Dunno if I could define it with the purty terms I used before, but I consider it love nonetheless. You might not. C'est la vie.

Is it all head? Since we're using that crude form of communication called language, you could make a case for it. And if you equate "belief" and "desire" to "head" and "heart", technically, yes, the brain performs all of the functions that create a person and a human being out of a few pounds of flesh, a few quarts of blood. But if we're talking base intellect and ideas as opposed to raw emotion and feeling, no, it's not the same. Unless you're ready to say that love is an approximation too, and it's really all about language. :P
