Set a thief to catch a thief, as they say. It explains, after all, how come our replicant hunter is so tough. Also:
1) The police briefing mentions six escaped replicants but only goes on to give details of five. Count 'em!
2) The original cut was given a really mushy ending. Hey presto, Sarah Tyrell the replicant turns out not to have a five year limited lifespan. In the (better, IMHO) director's cut their uncertain future together is left hanging. But knowing the main character (sorry, can't remember his name) is a replicant too, maybe they'll both seize up after five years have gone by.
Flippant attitude to their plight and one overlooking the whole point of the limited lifespan ethical issues raised, and the issues about what makes us human, but... I'm not about to discuss the entire everything about the film in a single post!
