Thank you FK. I'll admit to a little bit of fear about leaving my job security to persue something so mysterious and not exactly profitable (understatement). On March 10th I will begin collecting signatures from the leaders, elders and Historic Preservation officers of 16 different tribes. All this will protect only one 1600 acre site in Colorado. The land contains artifacts and remains and will be used to conduct traditional Indian religious ceremonies (sweat lodges, healing ceremonies, etc.). Two days ago my research on another project helped to protect a site in North Dakota. I have received honors from the Kiowa tribe, the Ute Mountain Ute tribe, the grey eagle society and the medicine wheel coalition. Since most of the work that I do is termed "confidential" I cannot share the specifics. But, since you asked (and I'm glad you did) you now know more than most of the people I work with on a day to day basis. I will check in when I can. If you post your email I'll even tell you where I am. Sounds like some great Indiana Jones mystery woman...ha ha ha! It is a labor of love. While there are interesting and somewhat glamorous insights (Like returning the bodies from England abandoned by the infamous Buffalo Bill) it is mostly legal wrangling and tenacious perseverance. You would be surprised how much your small words of support mean at a time like this. The wind blows wildly outside my window but inside I feel an enormous calm. Thank you again. Keep in touch. GZB |
