Saab 9000 Turbo (My father was a race car driver and I think better when my turbo is engaged).
Great question - I confess to having been a philosophy junkie for most of my life. I look at religion from the eyes of "Anthropological Adam"; a human male dropped onto the planet 2000 years ago and quickly discovering that I can control everybody else by putting God/Goddess/mythology in a tin can with directions on it - "do this", "don't do that" - all initially based on Sex and $$$ (the Sacred Fire). If I can control my community's sex life and convince my fellow humans that they should donate 10% or more of their income to me - Voila - I sustain a church. If they are misbehaving - as good little humans will, then I control their moral values - I dictate who they can have sex with, how often, and for what purpose - procreation and lack of birth control being the sure fire way to create more good little members of my church to give me more money and support my process and to suppress my natural animal instincts through GUILT. Obviously, I'm tainted, jaded and probably not the best person to ask. I spent years in the Society of Emissaries, learned every metaphysical healing process from Qui gong to Pranic healing and blended all this into a sort of Sufi/Buddhist tradition. I've met Ram Dass, read Guirdjeff, spun tales with Changyam Trungpa, studied with Uranda and lived to tell you that it all makes for a great story. My true religion is Art and Kindness. Nothing more/nothing less. |
