Responding to Mr. Hueston's assertion that Mr. Lay had characterized short-sellers as "terrorists," Mr. Lay said that in late 2001, "we were being attacked very viciously," repeating a previous assertion that a group of hedge funds met in Florida in early 2001 and agreed to act together to bring Enron down. In the weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, Mr. Lay said he felt Enron was "under siege" by hostile investors. |
