I, too, like Bobby Driscoll, and have since I was a youngster. We were contemporaries, he and I, and I once set out from Minneapolis for California with the express intention of somehow meeting him. Unfortunately, I made it only as far as western Kansas before my automobile expired, forcing a drastic change in plans.
It grieves me greatly to think of Bobby's remains resting in a pauper's grave on lonely Hart Island off Long Island in New York. Why isn't there a move to have his remains returned to California and interred next to his father's? I know that it has been proposed. Hart Island is maintained by the New York Department of Corrections, and I'm certain a record exists of the exact location of his gravesite.
I understand that re-interrments of individuals buried at Hart Island have taken place in the past. It would mean much to me as I'm sure it would to others who think highly of Bobby, and although I am not by any means a wealthy man, I'd be honored to contribute to such an undertaking. |
