is a sensitivity towards the people harmed by less privacy. (people= most citizens)
i have seen it happen before. when i was staying in london there where several severe bomb attacks and suddenly virtually everybody was for surveillance cameras on public places.
i - as matter of fact - doubt that they actually increase security in the long run. and i very much mind being filmed wherever i go.
in austria suddenly protection of data privacy spells helping terrorism. but just half a year ago a skandal ran through austria:
1/3 (if i remember correctly) of queries in the EKIS, the austrian police database, where of a private nature, and police men accepted cash for information. ask me if i want them to have more acces to more data?
and austria does feature a foreign affairs minister who prefers to hand over unproven accusations (whicht would never make it to trial because they are unproven and unimportant) to the Italian head of police so that he keeps unwanted critical Austrian citizens in jail.
sorry, but access to all sorts of information is not in good hands when in the hands of power. |
