Close your eyes. Raise your left arm and bring your right arm slowly across the front of your body. Place your right hand in your left mid-axillary line, just below the lowest point of the ribs. Visualise an explosion as a beautiful flower and, pressing deeply inwards, inspire. Do not expire.

Feel the small knobbly thing with the hard edge? That's your saffron.

Either that, or your spleen. I always get the two confused.

Rob

Footnote: Most spleens are impalpable. Don't worry if you don't find yours. The mid-axillary line is a line drawn down the side of your body from the centre of your armpit. The plane encompassing both mid-axillary lines divides you in two anteroposteriorly ("coronal section").

Second footnote: There is always beauty wherever you look. An explosion is a bright, ephemeral flower, its complexity infinite in the expanding fractals of its firey blooms. Contemplate the uniting of beauty and terror. Many people will be finding it hard to see the beauty right now.

Third footnote: To the angry: Do not be angered by the above statements. I am as disgusted by the actions of the terrorists as any. I am simply exercising my mind. Your anger shows that to you the explosion and its effects are inextricably intertwined. But will you enjoy the bonfires and fireworks of Independence Day and Guy Fawkes' Night the same as before? Will you turn on your gas cooker without a qualm? Why can you not think of the flames only as flames? Can you not see the parts as well as the whole?

Fourth footnote: I always write as if to the widest possible audience. You never know who might be listening.

Fifth footnote: To the terrorists:
