you raise many good points, and I can only agree.

However, I think i also see a very simple solution: leagalization.

many people seem to think that leagalizing drugs will lead to rampant abuses of them, but i disagree. I think it would make it into an institution, and therefore controlable. You say that the money is currently going into organized crime, and I have no doubts that this is true. However, were drugs leagalized, they could be taxed and quantifyed, in the same way guns and ciggerets and alchohal are today. I dont think your going to get rid of the addicts any time soon, and I think that anybody whos stupid enough to take to strong drug abuse is going to do so regardless of the legality of it.

on the other hand, I tend to think of drugs on the level I know them: pot and alchohal, and medical drugs. I dont consider pot and crack on the same level personaly, but I think its important that we not pick and chose which addictions would be ok. Some are fighting to make pot legal, but not any other drugs. I suspose I can agree with this, but I dont like the idea of validating some addicitions but not others.

i am not saying that drugs are not tied to some evils, nor am I saying we shouldturn a blind eye to those evils. irresponsible drug use is a band thing, but bad to the same extent that being irresponsible driving your car (without the influence of drugs or alchohal): you could kill yourslef, more importantly you could kill someone else who is innocent, and finally, when you crash it hurts us all a little. but, we all accept those risks every time we take the responsibility of driving. Now, you can stay in control of the car, and never have a problem with it, and take yourself to many interesting places via the car. or you can go to work every day in it, which i think is a major bad idea of the american workforce (we spend the most time in bed, followed by time spent in the car.) I think this suddently became a pro-mass transit essay. oops. that happens when i get flowing.
