Also, think of new characters: Swart for example. I would never add a character to "help the story". If there is a Swart... it's because a Swart suddenly entered my life.
The fourth season is slower than the other ones, and it's in an early stage too. But above anything else, I think that the feeling of "shift" comes from two things: 1) Lack of M., 2) Colors.
Those are two BIG changes.
