long time no see: i do not know, wether you'll get teh answer, i've been on holiday:
you are rigth about defining: i like using words like distancing, artificial etc, because i am rather emotional, ruled by diffuse feelings.
therefore, art for me is a means to see things from the outside (i do not write about me, though my audience would argue there and have a point)
art is taking a small area of live and transforming it into something other (H sitting in a bar having a beer is not part of live as andrea doing the same would be, you can leave most things out: the taste of the beer, the surface of the glass, the smoke, the music and if you add it to the strip it would be highlighted in a way that it would not have been in real life)
therefore an artist is rather a filter, having observational powers obviously helps.
and yes of course art is the artists response to the world, but is it its product: maybe and maybe not.
it is in the sense that it is the artists product, and the artist is a product of this world, it speaks about our world, but i believe i would still argue that art triggers of a way of thinking that is otherwordly in a not religious sense
graphic arts: we do see, or use the same senses as when we negotiate the world, lets say find our way through a city. but its aim is not orientation, information, it connects elsewhere: maybe in our stomachs, maybe in some other part of the brain, maybe in our toes.
this world as non art: filtering out from a multitude of info-channels
this world as art: filtering in from blank, building from scratch.
my art: words over music |
