I guess it gives you more points than playing the secondary word directly, since the word is scored in addition to the secondary word (normally it would not be).
I think this is nicer than regular Scrabble rules (where all words must be >=2 letters) since it is more general. In Scribble, your secondary words >2 letters must be real, and are scored. Your primary word can be any length.
