re: can't take it no more: from someone new to the game

I've only been playing for a short time (using 2 addresses, a webTv at home and a PC at wprk), and even I find certain players irritating and become frustrated at their word choices, especially when they use high point letters for low point words (18 points on a triple??? puleeze. . .). That drives me nuts, but I'm not sure telling someone off about their choices is going to make them stop playing, read the guides, or try to be cooperative. I often hope that someone in the 'Top 50' will come along to save the game, so please don't stop playing!

However, the 'Top 50'can be very scary to someone just beginning. You have a tendency to not be kind in your remarks, and I often ask myself just how the heck are we supposed to find all those 8-letter words you keep demanding? It might be easy for someone who's played a long time, but it isn't for me -- or I find an 8-letter word and realize that if I put it on the only spot it can go (not on a triple or even a double), I'll get yelled at.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, and will only play a word when a bunch of idiots have been playing a game (ShayShay comes to mind. . .) and I think I can help with the points, or I play when I actually DO find an 8-letter word for the triple, and then I wait. . . but no one tells ME I've done a nice job. You Top 50 seem to reserve those nice comments for among yourselves.

The seasoned players have to remember that there are players here who are not as word savvy as yourselves, but I think we're trying to learn to play (although I'm not convinced BadPenny falls into this category; I think BadPenny loves pushing your buttons!). Someone posted a chat comment a few days ago that they think the new/bad players aren't reading the chat, and I think that's true. I was playing happily until I did see the chat, and that's when I became intimidated and started lurking more than I played. I don't want to be yelled at, especially by players that are considered so expert they have their own expert games we can't even see on the main site! How can a new player be expected to be as good as the experts?

I'm sorry I've ranted for so long, but Teddy opened the door for me. I certainly do not want to see the familiar names go away (Roger, Laura J, elle immediately come to mind, although there are others I just can't remember right now) as we need their skill, and while I offer no suggestions as to how to encourage new players to pay attention, read the guides, and play as a team member, I certainly understand, and share, Teddy's frustration!
