By "them", do you mean the players that follow Tom's words in the instructions, i.e., scribble is a cooperative game, cooperative meaning "everyone usually tries to help each other to make big-scoring words"? You shouldn't have to deal with "them" -- you should be playing along with them.
Tom (the site owner) says there aren't any rules, but every player should use common sense -- playing a low scoring word on a trip does not get high scores, so how can playing a low scoring word, or a word that blocks a trip, be considered cooperative? It just takes a little thinking to realize what you're doing when you make a play. Many, many players have tried giving tips and hints on playing in the chat, but it's totally ignored. You don't have to apologize when someone points out a mistake, but you can respond to the chat - saying I didn't realize that or I didn't see that is not an apology but does show you're not deliberately trying to ruin the game. Trolls rarely respond to chat (and when they do, it's usually a childish retort like sticking out your tongue) and they continue to play uncooperatively. Not every player is a troll, but the new players have names that those who've been playing for awhile don't recognize, so we do distinguish between new players and trolls. But anyone who's read the instructions or scrolled through the boards cannot honestly believe that playing a 30 pt (or less) word on a trip is contributing to a high score. Everyone's right: it's just a game. But isn't it worth playing your best in any game? Didn't your gym teacher or coach teach anyone the meaning of the word 'teamwork'? |
