Obviously religion is a choice to some degree. When I made analogies to race, what I was trying to say was that whether or not you are pious/stereotypical should have nothing to do with whether or not you get offended. Much like race, people are born with a set religion. Unless they convert, they are that religion whether they like it or not--and they have a right to be offended by material targeted at said religion, whether or not the material was intentionally offensive, or whether the person who wrote said material took possible offensiveness into account. After all. . .nobody INTENDS to offend people, it just happens.
Personally I think that a forgiveness/apology(whichever applies) is in order, but not from you. You are partially responsible for the things people put on your site, but saying that you should be held completely responsible is like saying that a kitchenware salesman should be held responsible when the person he sold a knife to stabs someone. |
