Well to start with, if you're looking for equalizer functionality, then EQ Sync is probably not going to give you what you want.  Did you read the description of it?  ;-)

So far as Audacity goes, I'm not sure what's going on.  I downloaded it today to test out, but the first time I tried to launch it, it froze while launching and I had to force quit it.  The second time, I was able to load EQ Sync, but the Preview button didn't work for it (no sound would come out).  When I applied EQ Sync and then tried to play back the results, Audacity froze, it caused all audio on my system to die, and actually it caused every other application running on my system that uses sound to freeze as well, and I had to force quit all of them and then reboot in order to get my system running again.  So, suffice to say, I have removed Audacity from my system and I will never run it again.  So I'm not sure what to say about it with respect to your problem with EQ Sync...
