I don't know. I used the standard HTTP cookie protocol, so I can't imagine why it wouldn't work... and I don't have access to Safari to try it.

I was able to 'hack' Safari to make it recognize my user name by editing the Cookies.plist file and adding a Dictionary entry with info similar to the cookie that is set by snoot.org for Muddle from another browser (Camino for OS X).

However, I've come across another problem with Muddle and Safari.  Whenever I click the 'refresh' link on the Muddle page it doesn't actually refresh the page in Safari but instead appears to just retrieve the page from the browser's cache.  And I can't find any Safari setting so it doesn't check the cache with each request.
