Austin, you should feel perfectly free to play however you wish on the non-expert boards, as long as you are not being intentionally disruptive. The experts should know better than to chastize novices.

it's reasons like this that I'm so tempted to write a more comprehensive Scribble instruction file... The usual disclaimer first -- I'm not the one doing the berating, etc.  :)

Anyway, until the better instructions are written, I think if you follow two straightforward rules, you'll have far fewer jabs thrown your way:

1. Do not, under any circumstances, block any of the "double-triples" on the outer edge of the board. As an aside, do not even play a word on the outer edge of the board unless it will hit two pink TWS tiles (8-letter-word or higher).

2. For miscellaneous "special" tiles scattered throughout the board (DLS, DWS, etc), always try to play them "doubly", and if you can't on your turn, help others to do so be setting them up. For example, say there's a TLS (light blue square) somewhere, and right below it is the word AG. Try not to just play "ZAG". That will net only 33 points -- try to play a word across at the same time (ZIT, ZAP, FEZ, etc, doesn't necessarily have to be a Z set-up). Then the Z will be counted twice, each time on a TLS. Like if you played ZIP above "AG", it would be worth 67 points -- quite an improvement over 33!).

These are the two most fundamental things to follow. But keep to the beginner boards until you're regularly participating in games over 1200 or so... hehe.

Comments? From beginners and experts alike?  :)

Austin, I am sincerely sorry if I have made any of those unkind comments.  There are people who purposely sabotage the boards, and I am afraid I may have confused you with one of them.

Unlike Scrabble, scribble is a cooperative game... we try to help each other out to make the best, highest scoring plays for the game.  This is done with set ups.  Scroll down the chat list before you make your play to see if there are any notations like "X set" then look at that play.  Make 2 words for the set up, with the premium letter on the blue square.  "oe" is a common set up for the J.  If you see it building up to a light blue box, you might play "jet" to make the 2 words and 54 points.  Always try to make 2 words from a premium square.

S's are just one point, but can mean a whole lot more if you use them to make 2 pluralized words in one play.

A seven-letter word starting at the middle of the board is a set up, hopefully for an 8-letter word spanning 2 triple word scores.  Please don't put a word in row 14 down as it will block the set up.

Thanks for posting, welcome to scribble and please accept my humbled apologies ;-)
