The games that aren't 1-14 are different for a reason. A good start (a seven-letter or greater word) is essential to acheiving a good high score. Games that aren't started in this way are generally quit. Like you said you can play those games up there.
And congrats on the word. |

And to add to that: more importantly if the premium letters (J,Q,X,Z) are used on words that aren't on the triple letter scores early on then that also is grounds for ending the game because, that too, will destroy any chances of scoring high. Again, you can do this all you want up there. ;-) |

well, to be fair, that game was going comparatively well... don't know who quit it or why, but there's an easy solution here. Finish the game you're playing and it won't be ended early :^) |

By playing this high roller, Frankie (congratulations, btw!) now you know why the scribble players get irritated when trips are foiled and blocked, or the word QUIT is played at e11d.
QUIXOTES could have been played on the regular boards, but you wouldn't have had near the chances of doing so for two reasons: trolls and experts. Trolls would have foiled your plans on games 1-14. Experts *save* the premium letters and _create_ the set ups for just that kind of play. Without LAYERAGE for your set up, your score would have not been near as high.
I dug out the game you are speaking of:

Yes, you made an excellent play with QUIXOTES -- AND you made an excellent play with JUT, but then you made DEADLIEST which is a (debatably) good play for Scrabble; but, this is scribble and you were playing on the expert boards: S's are saved for trips on the expert boards. Premium letters are saved for DLS's in the trips on expert boards, though QUIXOTES as well as QUETZALS and QUEZALES are frequently played there. Experts play for the big 4 trips and all plays work towards setting those up, with as few letters played each turn as possible, resulting in higher scores. If you choose to play on games 15 or 16, you gotta play by their rules or the game will be blue buttoned.
I got more to say, but I'll cut it short for now.... |
