"Where's the challenge in trying to find a place on the grid to place a long, obscure word you have searched for in a dictionary based on the letters you have to use?"

I'll stay out of this for the most part because it's been discussed-to-death but just because you don't see the challenge doesn't mean it's not challenging.  Try to score 1900 points in a game and tell me that's not a challenge! ;-)

Here here!

I agree.

I give more weight to games 1-14 and the high scores there. A 1000 point game (though belittled by many players) using only your brain, and not an online program, is far more impressive in my book.

Words chosen at random by various players of differing levels of experience and those words placed in chaotic fashion is a far more legitimate high scoring cooperative game.

I'm not afraid to say so either.

I don't use a dictionary, but then, I don't think it's advanced to rearrange 10 letters to find words like "stakeout", "exchange" (add the d or s for a 9 letter word!), or even "polarize".  And what's wrong with using an on-line anagram program?

One of the first things it says in the instructions is the game is "cooperative" so "everyone usually tries to help each other to make big-scoring words."  You may find it offensive when a player asks that a space be used for an 8 letter trip, but they are really asking for your cooperation, one of the keys to the game, and it can be quite irritating to ask players to wait for a 'y' to spell 'jealousy' and have someone ignore the request and spell 'jay' instead (especially on the triple).

I agree that having different levels of games (in addition to the expert games) might help, but what's to stop any player from going into any level? For instance, I see myself as a mid-level player and do not play the expert games, but you may see me as an expert, and someone I consider a beginner may think they're mid-level or even expert.

As it is now, the expert games are regularly played by persons that do not follow the experts guide, thus defeating the purpose of the expert games.  I think we have to ALL pull up our britches and try to cooperate, as Tom wants -- I've stopped making comments on the boards, but nothing stops me from swearing out loud in the privacy of my own home. : )
