Not to encourage anyone, but I always thought a somewhat interesting variation is to purposefully play for the lowest score possible -- avoiding using the trips and other colored squares, etc.
Realistically, I'd estimate one could go as low as 350 or so points.
I still prefer the opposite tactic though --
