thanks, tas1, and welcome! the best advice is to read the expert guide a couple of times -- there's a lot in there & it can't be absorbed all at once. I refer to it often.
the players that waste S's & U's are our trolls -- don't like 'em but they have the right to play as they want, so try to think of them as an added challenge. They don't understand that the object is to get as high a score as possible - if not here to ruin the game (like the guy that uses all the U's), they seem to just play the first word they see.
Here's a couple of things I do if the trolls are out: 1) don't make a set even if you can't think of a way they could ruin it (believe me, they will ruin any trip they see); 2) if there's a premium tile out (Q, J, X, Z) play it the best way you can, just to stop them from wasting it for face points only; and 3) if there is a set, make the best possible word you can with it -- I'd rather see a 50 pt trip than an 18 pt trip! (And we have seen many of those)
Lastly, since there are only 4 S's and they are often wasted, try to make sets that can begin or end (depending on where the set is) with as many letters as possible.
I have noticed your plays these past couple of days and you're making nice plays -- keep at it and you'll soon be comfortable making 8 letter trips! (I think you did one today, if my memory is right!)

tas, it is obvious that you are trying, and that is more than ok by me, no expects someone to be an expert from day one. Just showing the effort is enough for me. Keep playing. we need more cooperators.

Thanks, Tas1! I feel the same way and many times doing the set-ups can be as challenging as making the trips. I believe either of these are more challenging than playing as the trolls do. Anyway, all cooperative players are welcomed by me. |
