If someone comes along and wrecks the game again, we can fix it again. The essence of SICO is that players of all abilities can jump in and play, and "all" includes rank beginners who don't know the relative values of pieces or who leave pieces - even queens - en prise. Complaining about it just doesn't help, and I seriously doubt that our generous host is inclined to start requiring entrance exams, so we might as well just learn to do the best we can.
About the only solution that might help without excluding anyone might be a "take back" that's voted on similarly to draws. That way at least two or three regulars acting together might have a chance to undo the worst single-move blunders (including their own, and I've seen every one of the regulars make 'em) before they detract too much from the game. Maybe Tom7 can provide some insight into how implementable or acceptable such a solution might be. |
