or Ghost in the Shell (manga). that had some interesting writings on the nature of the human soul, expecially when traped in a machine.
i must admit, i dont know what i am really talking about, so if you disagree im sure your grounds are better than mine. but thinking out loud can only get you labed stupid, at worst, and i feel very little danger of that arround here.
i actually stared thinking about this whole internet thing after watching the Japanese Animation (or Anime, if you want to look like you know the sceen) "Serial Experiments: Lain" which is a very interstiung and artsy anime piece that i would highly reccomend finding, even if you have no love of anime. its about a girl who discovers that the lines sepperating the real and the wired world are bluring, and that memory is the strongest proof of anything.
i liked it anyway. but im into that sort of thing.
as for the ant: yes we can understand the ant nest. but thats becuase its outside us. i was implying that if we were part of the network that makes the internet something more than the sum of its parts, then the internet wouldnt be able to see us, becuase we are inside it, and make it what it is. in the same way, we have great dificulty understanding the human body, simply becuase its inside us, and therefore its hard to get a good look at it. specificly, the brain is still not compleatly understood. we have gotten to the point of testing different inputs and outputs, and have been able to make very general statements, but the exact nature of it eludes us. and even ten, we dont see the parts that MAKE the system, only the system its self. as if it were a math equation. you can see some inputs and some outputs and decide whats going on, but you may not see WHY whats happeniong is happening.
i think that makes sence. |
