Good point. Although I think that we will eventually understand the processses of the body, if not the mechanisms of consciousness. We may understand the pysiological processes of the brain eventually, but the link with our mind may prove more elusive.

But you're right: the internet is us, and to that extent we're invisible, or at least incomprehensible. If the internet had an emergent consciousness, however, I think it would be able to analyse not only ourselves, but also our societies and global forces.

Moot point however: it doesn't, at least not in the form we recognise. From a (putative) external point of view, the flow of memes and information might seem to be self directed. It would be a colony organism. Is it possible? What do you think?
