what kind of letter generation rules
are you using? are you looking for a
certain proportion vowels to consonants?
Do you draw on a pool of letters like
picking letters out of the bag in
scrabble?
I've noticed that the U always comes
next to Qs when there is one. I'm just
sort of curious about that this morning.
Thanks! |

Yer asking for feedback... and I can only give it based on my own screen no idea how it works on others...
but on MY screen - after a game is played and you go back ... your at the TOP of the screen... in order to see if the next game has started you have to move your mouse over and then scroll down a bit ... to get to the list of games in progress..
This only takes a few seconds
BUT when your playing 'against' someone and they've started the new game, those few seconds make quite a difference.
Idealy, the list of games in progress should be at the top - or at least be able to be seen in the top screen, meaning at the very least the 2nd set of stats would go under it.
Just a helpful hint.
This game is greeeeeat by the way.... :)
A suggestion for the future? I think there should be a max # of people per game - not at all an issue NOW - not enough players... but in the future you might consider a max # of players set at either 3 or 4.... ie if someone tries to join a game in progress and there are 4 already playing it'll say "Sorry game has max # of players"
As I said this isn't an issue yet... we've only had 4 playing one game a few times. Not sure if you want to set the max at 3 .. or 4... but definately 4 max.
Now if you want to get REALLY fancy with this thing? I don't even know if THIS is possible or not, but it'd be really nice to have a way to NOT show the tiles on one board (more later??) until 2 have joined... lemme explain why
This really doesn't matter to me personally cause if I'm playing with someone who's the slower typer - I wait and let THEM start the game (ie get the intitial advantage...) I type very fast - so I like to do things that way.
But - getting a few moments to see all the tiles and start to type them in as the other person is (scrolling down to find the list of games...hitting restore to see which game you started...and so on) is a huge advantage.... and that's fine.
BUT as this game gets really popular (and it will) it'd be really nice to have ONE board (more added later?) that doesn't show the TILES till a 2nd person joins.
Here's the idea -
Game 6 - Two player game.
(you join... the board displays
"Waiting for an opponent"
See what I mean?
I know this doesn't sound easy but it'd be really ideal for 'competition' games amongst some serious players - so they both see the tiles at the same time.
But - how would *I* know someone else has joined - unless I hit refresh? That's the tricky part here? Don't know if you can 'refresh' my screen when soemone else joins?
Well that sounds tough - perhaps this is an idea for "Game 6" - Game 6 does not display the tiles till X amount of 2nd after someone joins.... 10 seconds?
See what I'm getting at?
I join "Game 6" Two player only game (just naming it this for our reference)
It takes 10 seconds after someone joins to display tiles - so it'd say
"Refresh your screen in 10 seconds" - when the first person joins...... that might work if you can't get my previous idea going.
Basically I think most of us are 'merit' based people though - in other words after a few games I will either 'start starting the games' or 'wait for the other person to start' based on how fast a typer I percieve them to be from the first few games.
But that 'game 6' idea is something to think about.
Well I have 10 other ideas for this but I'll let you chew on these for now LOL.
Whit

I am so addicted to this game!
After playing at night (a lot!), I sure wish the grid was bigger (I have trouble sometimes distinguishing N and H) and centered ( The edge of the screen is a little out of focus for some browsers/screens).
Again, just a suggestion or two. :-)
Thanks,

I know it's not a really "smart" engine, but I miss the "!" and "!!" (and "?"/"??"). Oh well, it still rocks. |

Hi,
I really enjoy scribble! It is fun to play. However, when playing in games 1-14 I am constantly reading rude remarks regarding how some people play their words(some people are new and and at different levels). Then, since I have played awhile, I have played in games 15 & 16. More often than not I am told "exactly what word to play and when to play it" and should I deviate from *their* way---the game is ended because I didn't do something perfect.
Ok, I understand the idea is to get the highest score. But constantly knocking people in their attemps to have fun playing is making all the games seem more like...well, not sure how to put it.
Playing a game to me doesn't mean setting up every word and if it doesn't go right--ending it. That is a form of cheating. Half the time some of the higher scores come from the upper deck where we don't set up every word!
Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for offering the games. I just wish more people had a better idea of sportsmanship. |

Could we have a hall of fame for the upper scribble boards? :)
Also - just some ideas if you ever have time, would be fun to have a 'most used words' list - :) Also highest word scored list...:) |

Tom you requested a URL of the offending poster...
calling a fellow poster a 'moron' when the poster posted a good word with a set (because it isn't apparently to their elite standards) then calling me Moron II and so on.. I think you'll see it all.
The game was then restarted as per apparently their usual.
Some of these folks were good friends of mine here for a few years, so I'm hoping knowing that it hurts and offends someone - might make them stop doing this (restarting games just cause others are not as elite as they are)
I too wanted the ability to restart games easier, but it wasn't to slam fellow team players because they were not 'good enough' it was just cause late at night it was really tough for two of us to continue when a game had no more words etc. However it's being abused, and I'm hoping me pointing it out - as someone they used to enjoy here - might change that behavior and if not think it'll need changed. I have a few ideas up my sleeve to try to bring the game full circul to what it used to be.
I honestly feel bad because I think I might have been one of the main factors in shaw...andrew and other awesome TPs leaving, because I was one of those obsessed with only '8 ltr words' and so on.. well I started the drive, but I just never realized how far we had went, or how far it would end up going.
I feel the intent of the hidden boards - when we convinced you to keep them, was a place for us team players to play without someone intentionally blocking triples or using a triple for "SITS" (4 points AND wasting 2 s's ..) I'd like to see it return to that intent, and one special board for those who now play this 'elite expert too-good-for-anyone-but the very best or those using anagram programs' to play .. a board 99 or something for them.
Not asking alot, as you'd orignally had 3 TP boards remember and I suggested we minimize it so we TPs will play on the main boards sometime or we'd never have MORE TPs do to attrition.
At any rate those who were doing the restarting of games I'm hoping will listen to me - if not I'm hoping you will make it very hard to abuse the system and fellow TPs as is being done now.
I do hope you deal with the person who turned this board totally hostile last night by calling people moron's and telling us to f' off and so on, she's the only one on that isp so shouldn't be hard if a warn doesn't put a stop to it.
Take care!
Still love the boards and I will do what I can to play peacemaker here again as I used to.

I guess I got to the board after you had received the complaint. You have a wonderful site & very interesting games but as the last posting pointed out, it is not pleasant being called names. The two players involved love to tie up the games or they have written what they should each do to end a game when someone else inserts a word. Since I have been playing your games, no one has been as rude or childish as they are.
I have posted here before & want to thank you for always giving a helpful
reply. I just hope that I can continue to enjoy playing your games. It certainly helps to sit back & relax once in a while. Again thank you. |
