Lemurs, once believed to be cute but basically stupid, show startling intelligence when given a chance to win treats by playing a computer game, U.S. researchers reported on Wednesday.

Why use just 'a,' 'i,' or 'tv'?
[36567] by "Anonymous" (hq.llgm.com)   on Wed 12 May 2004 13:55:43     reply ]
I've seen 'a,' 'i', 'and 'tv' used a number of times over the last few days and this use makes no sense to me. These are usually used toward the start of a game, the points are low (no kidding) and there are other possibilities for words with the given letters, so I don't see why anyone would place just these -- it certainly doesn't help with changing the tiles!

I admit I may be missing something, so I'm asking: can someone explain why they would place 'a', 'i', or 'tv' on the board at the start of a game?

Thanks!
What's the deal?

Is there a unique dictionary that I don't know about? I have seen some pretty wild so-called words since coming here a week ago.
Looking at dictionary.com my search for the following came up a little short:

indicias, outfasts, snoozles, zincy, rax, etc., etc.  It amazes me the "words" or lack there of that this site accepts.

Whatever happened to REAL Scrabble where you were only able to use real words....no names, abbreviations, acronyms, etc., etc.

It's not much fun when you know you can throw everything in including the kitchen sink & it be accepted.   Where's the challenge in that???

I sooo like Hangsnoot. I kind of remember the game my friends and I used to play during elementary years.  Anyway, Tom, is there a place in the web where i could find (free) downloadable Hangsnoot?  Or it's not downloadable and is only played on-line?

We've done it!!! The mythical 1800+ game is no longer mythical.  :-)))     Laura, myself, coz, and Natalie (for one play... hehe) played what is now the best [non-15-letter] game of all time. See this masterpiece here:

http://archive.snoot.org/scribble/04.05/01.00.51.54-1808.html

How was this done? With exceptional tile order and a lot of luck. And some skill too... heh. This game had all 4 premiums on DLS squares, *in addition to* a G on the DLS. We actually made a few sub-optimal plays towards the end of the game, which would've turned this into an 1810s or 1820s game, but no matter. We can die happily now, and I know I'll be sleeping well tonight  :-))))
