Interest and seediness, safety and boredom... Most unfortunate that the pairs should correlate so well, but still form such a dichotomy...
So here I am in Canberra, most insipid of capital cities. Fantastic university guys, but there's f-all to do after 5:30...
I'm staying at a student college on campus; attending a Machine Learning Summer School. Means: death by mathematics. Unless by some chance I survive the next fortnight.
Incredible that a room can embody such a feeling of emptyness. Or rather the opposite: so many people have claims on its memory from years of anonymous usage that all the meaning has been sucked out of it. It smells of despair, somehow.
Fast forward time: take a photo: a temporal average of a scene over a short time period. Extend the period; take a 'time duration' shot with a long shutter speed. Things start to blur of course; but you will notice that it's only the moving things. Perform an exposure over an hour: people will appear as an almost transparant smear over the intransience of the REAL world. A hour is not long; already the frantic motions of our life are rendered insignificant by the grinding of the wheel.
Perspective, people.
In this room's geologically insigficant lifetime... if I stood in the one spot for two weeks, would I make any impression at all? The message light blinks on the phone, but I don't have the code... Fragments of someone else's memory.
Vertigo: the sensation you get when you suddenly see farther than you expected. Do I only really exist in the memories of others? Do I occupy some small fragments of your imaginations, my friends? Some text; a nickname; a cipher of a photo...

Things have changed... I no longer fear my Y like I once did. She has returned to the primordial state of being so human that drew my attention and my eventual trust in the first place. Is everything all right? No. Do we still fight? Yes. But time passes, and this changes, and she makes me smile. I'm easily amused - I smile and laugh at many things, but it's always "ha ha, that was funny, what else is on"... she is one of the very few people who makes the smile stay. What's past is prologue; I think, perhaps, my Y is with me yet, despite how far I pushed her away. And I'm glad. |

Is there any justification for the USA to back a head of state who makes comments about asassinating another head of state? Please let me know, because I'm wondering.
USAians out there in LC land, do you support the actions (and rhetoric) that Bush is following / spouting?
