(re 1) I don't think I'll ever support a Java chessboard since Java is so cumbersome. I might consider DHTML, which would allow this same kind of behavior with less downloads.

(re 2) You think it detracts from the game to display the possible moves? I kind of like it, and it makes it more friendly to beginners.

(re 3) this is what I'm talking about when I say "new graphics are coming". =) I'm not sure if I have the ability to highlight the current piece without modifying the code, but I'll think about that. I'm working on a "chess font" which will allow me to do really sharp graphics but still feel like I didn't steal them.

I'm afraid kirbies will become pretty much useless if others are allowed to capture them, but I agree that a change in rules might be warranted. What about:

- kirbies can't move within 1 space of friendly king
or
- kirbies can be captured by the enemy king?
