Tom, like I posted before, I haven't seen a single "500 Crash" since you apparently fixed the problem. That's good. However, instead of crashing, the site will occasionally (frequently?) take upwards of 30 seconds to load. This takes the form of a huge delay, followed by a quick loading all at once. For instance, this has been going on tonight for upwards of six hours straight!!
Any idea why this would happen? I notice that the "www.snoot.org" domain is affected, but "archive.snoot.org" never has this problem. Maybe this means something to you...? Perhaps the $20 offer will be re-instated if you demonstrate no delays for a week straight or so ;-) |

Ici...Je M'appelle "C'est Moi".
I Am A 65 Yr Old Grandma.
I Rationalize My Addiction To Scribble...
As A Means To Exercise My Brain Muscles...
And As A Way To Keep The Troll-Like Possible Alzeimer Symptoms At Abeyance...
Is this Working?
Eh!...Who Can Remember?
I'm Finding That Combat With The "Lo Ballers"....
Is Much More Challenging Than Basic Scribble....
And Frequently Some Of Their/His Moves Brings A Smile To My Face & A Chuckle To My Lips.
Maybe They Aren't Intentional...But Just Bad Playing...
But He Does It Too Consistently ... Even A Bad Player Has To Get It right Once In A while...Even If It's A Typo or A Slipsies...
We All Need A Smile/Chuckle Once In A While In This Life.
Some Of The Frustration I Do Have ... Besides Having My Set-Ups Foiled ...
1) ~ Is Not 'Finding' Real Words In The scrabble Dictionary .... And Not Having Them Accepted By The Game...
ie: Reception...Perception...Conception
At Least I Vaguely Remember Them Not Being Accepted A Long Time Ago...
2) ~ Is Having Words That I Have Found In The Dictionary ... Not Accepted.
ie: PDQ
3) ~ Is Not 'Remembering' The Lovely Words That Are Accepted...But Not Found In The Dictionary.
ie: CIA...Lez
Maybe These Were The efforts Not accepted... Can't Remember...
I Think Scribble Is A Wonderful "Game"...
And I Can't Begin To Comprehend The Effort Of Programming A Whole Dictionary ...etc...
And Dealing With The Multitude Of Personalities Drawn To The Game site.
I Do Truly Thank U Tom (?)

~ Instructions for "Lo Ball" ~
The Participants Are Separated Into Two (2) Teams....
Well Maybe Three (3) Teams.
Team # 1 ~ Follows The rules As Best As They Can.
They Want To Make The Highest Score Possible...By Utiizing All Double / Triple Letter / Word squares.
They Create Small Words That Can Be Expanded ...and Re-Expanded ...So That The High-Pointers Can Be Counted & Re-Added To The Total Game Score.
And They Always Make 8 + Letter Words
... Extending From Triple To Triple....And Even Another Triple.
Team # 2 ~ Spots The Set-Ups...
And Tries To Foil The Maneuvers By Blocking All.
They Think Like Chess Players ... And Try To See / Play Several Moves In Advance....
Which Is Easy To Do....Beacause Team # 1...Doesn't Change It's format ...And Finds It Hard To Be Flexible.
Team #3 ~ Is Totally Oblivious To What's Going On Around Them ... And Just Wants To Enjoy A Few Liesurely Moments ...
Without Being Yelled At.
Some Of Them Belong On Team # 1...And Some Belong On Team # 2.
=======================
The Game Plan For Those Who Want To Be On Team #1....
Is To Team-up ...Double-Block....
Out-Maneuver ...By Creating Several Options For The Uses Of High Point Letters & Words.
And Possibly Only Work A Few Games At A time...Thus Freezing-Out Team # 2.
The Game Plan For Team # 2 ....
Is To Move As Fast As Possible...To Foil As Many Games as They Can ....
While Curling Their Mustaches Gleefully.
The Game Plan For Team # 3 ....
Is To Enjoy Themselves ... Without Getting Yelled At.

A New Game Is Afoot...
It Could Be Called "Lo Ball"...
It Has Been Initiated By Very Intelligent / Skillful Player / Players...
Who Seem To Have Become Bored With The "Bump" ~ "Set" ~ "Spike" ... Of Basic Scribble ...And It's Adamant Advocates.
Or They / He Could Just Be Rebelling Against The Over-Bearing Fanaticism Of The Self-Proclaimed Experts Who Try To Demean The Less Skilled Or The Vision-Impaired Or The Mentally Lapsing With Name Calling & Clicquish (?) Sneering.
These Childish So-Called Experts...Who Pout...Stamp Their Feet ... Delete Games ....
If They Don't Like / Approve Of The Plays Or Letters On The Board.
"Lo-Ball" Prepares Us For Whatever Live Gives Us....
The Experts Can't Deal With This Lack Of Control.
These "Rule" Adherents / Advocates ... Play A Complete Game By Themselves...
"Rule": ~ No Consecutive Plays.
Wish I Knew How To Do That.
"Lo Ball" ...Takes A Lot More Skill Than Basic Scribble ...
Tho It Is Very Frustrating If One Hasn't Changed His Mind-Set To The New Game.
Change IS Interesting....
And I Have Not Only Learned A Lot From Scribble Players...
I Have Learned A Lot About Myself.

In an attempt to get rid of the intermittent "500 crash" messages, I've changed something significantly. I think it was the cause, so if you get these messages or notice their conspicuous absence, then let me know! |

I would like to suggest that The Expert Guide be renamed, "A Guide for Cooperative Play".
If I were a newbie, I wouldn't read The Expert guide because I am obviously not an expert. I think that the new name would encourage others to read it... and perhaps (dare I say it?) use the tips.
Though this is addressed to Mike, I encourage all comments ~ |

Teddy, coz, and I just played what is now the new 1st place game, with 1799 (!!) points. With two tiles left, I tried every possible word for the highest score, but couldn't find enough to get it over 1800. It's killing me here. :)
We will do this -- it's getting closer and closer, only a matter of time now. See this beauty here:

Tom, just out of curiosity, is the complete tile order for any given Scribble game generated at the outset of the game? Or are only the first 10 tiles generated, with the remainder generated "on the fly"...?
Also, for anyone else, I added all former "First Place Games" to the Top 50 page (below the Top 50 itself), which traces the "#1 game" all the way back to the beginning of this site. :)

Tom, I downloaded the "TAR.BZ2" archive of Scribble Games from 2000, only to find that I can't open it with any unzipping program I have.
I tried WinZip, which gave an error ("Error reading header"). Then PowerArchiver, which specifically says it can handle TAR.BZ2 files, said it was an invalid archive. Then I tried WinAce, which didn't do anything.
Any suggestions? What do you use to open it? I dunno what the end size would be, but would it be possible to "repackage" the archive as a conventional ZIP file... thanks :) |
