I have read through your strat guide, and I now realize why our old games don't count.
I guess you consider them cheating... |

So,
I am confused. Is this the Top 50 after 2001, or the top 50 of all time?
If not, is there a way I can still access the archives from the late 90's? I am almost certain there are a few in there that could easily crack your Top 50.
PS If the old school Scribblers get together and beat your top score, how would you like us to collect our 100 bucks? |

PLEASE read the beginner's instructions as well as the expert's.
Please read the chat before placing your letters.
It will make the game more fun for everyone.

Hey Tom and/or everyone else,
I was bored tonight so I modified the "Expert Guide" so that it uses frames and breaks up the large guide into smaller, manageable sections. It looks pretty cool, I think:
http://www.geocities.com/janssenchimica/scribble/
More importantly, I also added a Top 50 Games page, in lieu of the [very] old "Hall of Fame" that you used to have in the late 1990s. I've maintained a Top 50 sheet on my hard drive (in Excel format), but wanted everyone to see the best games, without having to tediously search for them in the archives. Check it out by going to the above page, and clicking the "Top 50" link at the bottom left. Or just go here:
http://www.geocities.com/janssenchimica/scribble/top50.html
I know crap about HTML, but for a total newbie, I must say it looks very nice, especially the colorful table at the end. :-)))
I will update the Top 50 page once every few weeks, but as far as the actual guide goes, I think it's just about done. I may make some minor cosmetic changes in the future, but nothing big. I may put in a small section about the unconventional 15-letter games, but who knows. If anyone thinks I'm missing anything else, plz let me know... Much appreciated :-)

I added (and deleted) a number of things to the expert's guide located at:
http://www.geocities.com/janssenchimica/scribble/
I decided to remove the extremely basic stuff about entering words, and now direct readers to read Tom's instructions for that information.
I added a "Miscellaneous Tips" section towards the end containing 8 tips that most people never follow. ;)
I changed the section that said "No game has ever been played with JQXZ on the four DLS tiles", since this was accomplished on 2/14/2004. :-)
At the very end, I added the obligatory egotistical section, providing links for the eleven games over 1700 played here, and what the absolute top players consider good games. I was so tempted to make a list of the best players (and their respective IPs), but I realized this would probably offend a helluva lot of people... heh. Especially since we all know who #1 is... LOL j/k ;-)
In the future, I'm going to make a separate page with links to the Top 50 games, whatever those may be at the time (right now 50th place is 1595!). I'll also probably spiff up the main guide, dividing it into sections with a small frame on the left where one can click individual sections which would then be displayed on the right.
Feel free to e-mail me (address in the guide) with any constructive criticism or questions you may have. Thanks! :) |

Tom, I was wondering if you had an updated version of the word list used for Scribble. The one located at http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/tom7misc/manarags/wordlist.asc?rev=1.1&view=auto doesn't have words listed that the tester reports as being valid words (Ex: http://snoot.org/f/a/s/test?word=raj).
Thanks. |

First person who can find the definition of the word 'piazadora' gets a cookie.
I can't find the definition anywhere but it is valid to Scribble:

Is there some unusual word list that is used other than a dictionary? I have the 2 & 3 letter lists. |

I would just like to acknowledge a game that was played recently on the general (non-expert) boards which scored 1320:
http://archive.snoot.org/scribble/04.02/23.15.50.03-1320.html
This, I think, is pretty darn good for a non-expert game and I'd like to thank mclink, Otto and anyone else involved (don't remember if anyone else was playing or not and the archived game wasn't available at the time of this writing) for cooperating. ;-) |
