Regarding usefulness:  Well, I totally agree, I use it in almost every track, too!  That's why I made it...  ;-)  Glad to hear that you appreciate it, too.

Regarding the feature request, funny because I think I already added that feature a couple months ago.  I haven't released a VST update, but the Audio Unit version at our AUs page has a couple of new features.  One is that there is now there is a switch for making the mono-merge mixing linear (the old style) or equal power.  The other new feature (which I think does what you're after) is another switch that lets you make the panning be equal power pan (the old style) or weighted balance.  By "weighted balance" I mean that, as you move the slider towards the right, the level of the left channel increases and the level of the right channel decreases.  For example:  moving the slider half-way to the left results in the left channel having the left signal at 150% gain and the right channel has the right signal at 50% gain.  This is different than the pan mode where you would have 100% left signal + 50% right signal in the left channel and the other 50% of the right signal in the right channel.

So does that do what you want?  I might be misunderstanding you, but I think that it does.

Right now, the interface artist (the talented Brittnell Anderson) is working on an update of the GUI that includes these new parameters, so we'll have an updated version sometime after that's done.  The AU version will probably be available very soon and then the VST version will follow once our new graphics framework for Windows is more materialized.
