Preventative changes
[5896] by "FrereKhan" (bowerbird.qut.edu.au)   on Wed 19 Sep 2001 19:44:06     reply ]
Infinite tolerance. (Everyone)

Foreign policy changes. (USA)

Humility? (USA)

World government.

Isolationism. (USA) (More so)

Which of these are desireable, and which of these would actually be effective in preventing future (WORLD stage) environments like the one we currently have?

(As a side note, could someone please point out to me a non-secular conflict currently existing in the world? I need a change of perspective.)

Key Escrow (formerly frozen climate)
[5895] by "FrereKhan" (bowerbird.qut.edu.au)   on Wed 19 Sep 2001 19:25:59     reply ]
I think this is a sideline issue: Being able to intercept and decode email is only useful if you know where to look in the first place. Also: key escrow is unimplementable, as far as I see it. The Public Key algos are widely available, as are free implementations of them. As soon as you prohibit something, the underground market finds another way. If email was seen to be entirely unsecure (given key escrow) then they would have found another way...

I think that short of having prior knowledge of the attack there would be no way to stop these people. Fervour is almost the so-called 'unstoppable force' in this situation. You cannot effectively combat people willing to kill themselves for their cause.

So, key escrow: Legislating this would be a knee-jerk response, of course, but is this neccessarily bad? If you recall the Port Arthur situation here a few years ago, our government took the opportunity to illegalise most guns apart from pistols. There was of course some opposition, but on the whole I think people saw it as a good thing, in light of the situation in the States with handguns.

I don't see encrypted email in the same light. Encrypted email is not capable of directly harming anyone, in the same way a gun can.

In short: this situation is an intelligence issue. I don't see that plaintext email would have made an appreciable difference. Plaintext email in the future would not avert anything, unless there was prior intelligence knowledge of the people involved or their intent.

i see now, the untitled.thoughts and the minds amids the last cerial are taking on the same problems from radicly alternate angels.

untitled, chaos and the bitterness of acidemic life lead us to appreciate the beauty of language when broken from the contect of the rules that govorn it.

LC, order and serenity take on a zen importance, as the beauty of language is found by removing words from the realitys they define and appreciateing them simply as the ideas they are. in fact, now that i look at it, perhaps the zen comparrison is very close. its a school of though that evolved in a written culture of pictographers, rather then... letterests? Its so like the west to lable that which is forign and then forget to lable that which is the same whithin.

i think i may stick arround. but i cant exactly ditch my untitiled.thoughts.

maybe the two ideologys can be warkped together?

Vibrations, Eurora, Nosferatu, and a call to art

Lately the board has been slow, yes, but still steps and steps and steps ahead of any other forum I had the chance to post on.

Lately I've been obsessed with minimalism. John Cage, Fluxus, Nyman.

Lately I "met" other interesting people which I think will join the board very soon.

Lately I thought
"we should start a new artistic movement", but maybe I am being excessive here. At least, I wish we could make a website all together, with material from all of you.

Join this thread if you've got ideas, music, graphic, poetry, and the will to build it. I'll think to the hull.

This message is for you as well, Tobot, I know you're looking us ;)

Two people hold each other tightly, their arms wrapped around the other.

This is simple.

One person holds another, the other has their arms by their side and is looking away.

This is complicated.

One person holds another at arm's length.

This is painful.

A person crouches at the feet of another, with their head on the ground.

This is self-destruction.

As much as I wanted to answer directly I could not resist: a posting named "no one catches on" with no thread leading into discussion has both beauty and truth even though its beauty is as simple as a stool on which nobody sits:
http://www.mypage.bluewin.ch/andymeier/stuhl_gross.htm

never mind. answers will come as come questions, when i entered lc the board was vibrant, now it is vibrating slowly. it always reverberates. with thought threads throngs

and i - personally - am not a fan of marilyn manson. but i would be immensely interested in what kind of shoes he would be wearing in porn. jesus sandals?
